The college’s governing council chairman and East New Britain education adviser Hubert Wangun made the announcement during the launch of the programme over the weekend.
Wangun said under the province’s new education reform it would be the first time for a church-run institution in the province to introduce the programme. He said currently, the college offered a three-year diploma programme in primary school teaching since its inception in 1993.
Wangun said it was a great opportunity for students to equip themselves with a degree.
“We must be the agents of change as the Government is now embarking on changing the system of education today to meet higher standards,” he said.
Wangun said the change of the curriculum from outcome-based education to the current standard-based education system, under its new structure of 166.
He said the Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST) has recommended that all tertiary institutions including teachers colleges throughout the country introduce the new (DHERST) bachelor degree programme this year.
