A new fully-furnished teacher’s house and a standby generator were launched at the Balob Teachers College in Lae this week.
Morobe Governor Kelly Naru, Morobe education chairman Andrew Gena, governing council board chairman Bob Aaron and representatives from the PNG Evangelical Lutheran Church, staff and students attended the occasion.
The projects were funded through the provincial services improvement programme  funds.
“Balob Teachers College has 51 teachers and graduates about 500 primary school teachers yearly,” principal Jerry Hendingao said.
“The Evangelical Lutheran Church education department has put together an initiative for the college to be recognised as Lutheran Institute of Higher Education.”
Hendingao said the college would be developed into an institution that would provide degree courses.
Naru told staff members to look after the properties.
He encouraged church leaders to set aside differences and work together to benefit the students.
Balob Teachers College is located in Lae, Morobe. It provides diploma in primary teaching.
