POLICE recruits will undergo martial arts training as part of their induction programme at the Bomana Police Training College, commandant Chief Superintendent Perou N’dranou says.
N’dranou made the statement following a presentation by a South Korean Taekwondo martial arts group Korean Tiger at the college this week.
“I’m looking at integrating this type of training into our future programmes,” N’dranou said.
“Since I moved in to the college, my aims were to improve the condition of the training of recruits and that’s one of them. So we will take it on board and see what good it can bring.”
N’dranou said the Koreans had convinced the college management that the training would benefit recruits.
“The training will help when they become policemen to suppress any form or force or aggressive approach, and not rely only on firearms,” he said.
N’dranou said the college management aimed to bring a Taekwondo master from South Korea with the support of the Korean Embassy.
He said the Japanese Haikiko martial arts training currently used at the college was effective but needed a qualified trainer.
