New town
The new China town at Four-Mile in Port Moresby is quickly taking shape. A big boost to business in Boroko no doubt. The local graffiti artists have even added their contribution by repainting the fence.
New inn
A colleague was scratching his head yesterday as to where in Port Moresby is the Swearing Inn. He had never heard of it. It was in a statement released to the media. It was pointed out to him that the statement was referring to the swearing in of the board members of an organisation in Port Moresby. A spelling error.
What’s in a dress
A row is brewing in Samoa over the traditional dress worn at the Miss Pacific Island crowning night at the Stanley Hotel & Suites in Port Moresby last Saturday by Miss Samoa Fonoifafo Nancy McFarland-Seumanu. She was later crowned Miss Pacific Islands. According to a report in the Samoa Observer, it was same design won earlier by another Miss Samoa contestant Trinity Robertson-Asuega, whose mother complained that the design belonged to them. The comment set off a storm of online vitriol shared widely on the World Wide Web. But the original designer of the attire Rupi Taituuga is not bothered, saying it should not take away the achievement by Seumanu at the pageant in Port Moresby.
Only Semi
Former NRL star Semi Radradra is the only Pacific islander named in the 2019 World Rugby Cup team. He represented Fiji in the Japan tournament. Four Springboks, four from England, only two All Blacks. The team is: 15 Liam Williams (Wales), 14 Cheslin Kolbe (SA), 13 Lukhanyo Am (SA), 12 Owen Farrell (England), 11 Semi Radradra (Fiji), 10 Danny Cipriani (England), 9 Faf de Klerk (SA), 8 Ardie Savea (NZ), 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit (SA), 6 Tom Curry (England), 5 Alun-Wyn Jones (Wales), 4 Maro Itoje (England), 3 Kyle Sinckler (England), 2 Shota Horie (Japan), 1 Joe Moody (NZ)
Thought for today
When a bird is alive, it eats ants. When the bird dies, ants eat it. One tree can be made into a million matchsticks. But one match is needed to burn a million trees. Remember: Circumstances can change at any time. Do not devalue or hurt anyone in this life. You may be powerful today, but time is more powerful than you.
