INTERESTING day today – it is ‘Towel Day’ as a tribute to the author Douglas Adams by his fans. On this day, fans openly carry a towel with them, as described in Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author. The commemoration was first held May 25, 2001, two weeks after Adams’ death on May 11.

EVERY second, someone in the world is newly infected with tuberculosis. The global burden of the highly contagious air-borne disease remains significant, and so does it affects in the Pacific, particularly Papua New Guinea. To make things worse drug resistant strains of TB are multiplying.

IT is sad that some high ranking officials in the government do not know the roles and responsibilities of the office they occupy. This is widespread throughout the system. Some of these officers need to go back to school and study public speaking and diplomacy.

FIRST released in Japan in 1980, Pac-Man went on to become one of the most famous arcade games of all time. Developed by Namco video game designer Toru Iwatani, the game became an icon of 80s pop culture and is often credited with being a landmark in video game history. For the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man in 2010, Google turned its homepage logo into a fully playable version of the game.

CONSIDERED one of swing’s two great clarinetists – along with his rival, Benny Goodman-Shaw was a virtuoso at his instrument. He began playing professionally as a teen before becoming leader of one of the most popular big bands of the swing era. In 1935, he performed with a string quartet that he later expanded into a more conventional dance band. He led a US Navy band during World War II and various ensembles later on, retiring in 1954.

DECLARATION of the Bab is a joyous Baha’i festival to celebrate the Bab’s announcement in 1844 in Shiraz, Persia (now Iran), that he was the “gate” (which is the meaning of Bab) to the coming of the promised one of all religions. This proclamation is considered the beginning of the Baha’i faith, although the religion was founded after the Bab’s death. This day is holy to Baha’is and a day on which work is suspended. Its observation begins at about two hours after sunset on May 22.
