Daylight robbery
A group of six men with spades and shovels stopped cars along the Erima back-road in Port Moresby around noon on Saturday, demanding money from drivers. They were pretending to be clearing mud swept onto the road by the recent rain.
Boulevard traffic
Colleague taking a walk along the Boulevard in Port Moresby was almost run over by a speeding car on Saturday at a marked pedestrian crossing near the traffic lights. He did not know who to blame as the lights were not working.
No checkpoints
The unregistered vehicles and unlicensed drivers are back, now that the police and road transport authorities have lifted the checkpoints.
Xmas hangover
Christmas was 20 days ago. Some shops obviously suffering from a Christmas hangover are still displaying “Xmas sale” notices. The next Christmas is 345 days away, folks.
Own driver
Missy Kwin is well over 90 but still feels safe and comfortable in driving herself around. She was behind the wheel of her Land Rover yesterday in London.
