Suspicious minds
It’s starting to become an almost automatic reaction – people looking suspiciously at anyone coughing or sneezing in public or in the workplace. The deadly coronavirus pandemic is already making many people tense and edgy.
Built in six days
China is starting to build a special hospital with a capacity of 1,000 beds for patients with the coronavirus. It is expected to be completed within SIX days. Yes, six. In 2003, China built one in seven days to deal with SARS.
Helping out
Wouldn’t it be nice to see players and officials taking part in the IRB Sydney Sevens this weekend to spend some time helping out in the bushfire recovery effort? They can play rugby later.
Wrong venue
A group of around 300 nurses, doctors and ancillary workers at a hospital in Lae staged a protest yesterday – inside a chapel. Isn’t that supposed to be used for more divine purposes?
Tree cutting
The Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change plans to plant one million trees a year to mitigate the effect of climate change. That’s good. It should also discourage people and municipal authorities from cutting down trees.

Basketball legend Kobe Bryant and 13-year-old daughter Gigi attended a Catholic mass in Newport Beach early Sunday morning and received communion just hours before they both died in a tragic crash.
