Column 1

Political dominance
Our “leaders” are still arm-wrestling over political superiority at a time when many people are struggling to recover from the effects of a global pandemic and an economic slump. Foolhardy.
So near
We are well past the halfway mark of the current five-year term and our elected leaders are still wrangling over who should be leading us. The next election is not too far away.
Building up
Two more sleeps to go before the State of Origin decider. Avid Maroons fan says coach Wayne Bennett is playing chess while rival Brad Fittler is playing NRL. He believes Wayne purposely sacrificed Game 2 last week to build up an epic win for the Maroons on Wednesday. Let’s wait and see if it pays off.
New code
Melbourne Storm star wing Suliasi Vunivalu has been immediately drafted into a national team squad of another code. Wallabies coach Dave Rennie sure does not waste time.
Satan’s cookies
Is Satan into cookies too? Hopefully this is just a typo.
Sugar lips
From a reader: Never trust words. Some people have sugar on their lips but venom in their hearts.
Thought for today
The tongue utters what is in the heart. So rid your heart of envy, hatred, malice and doubt. You will have gracious speech from a pure heart.
Top quote
“You cannot be in leadership and be rude to people and expect to be respected because of your title.” – Dr Darnell Patton.
