Column 1

Silly season
Scribes call it the silly season because the “news basket” normally runs dry of quality stories, party goers call it the season to be jolly, and the faithful call it the holy season. Almost here.
Too early
Still six weeks away from Christmas and Jingle Bells are already blaring out of the loudspeakers at a major supermarket in the capital city. Mind you it has been a tough year. Time to make some money before the books close.
Low rate
One of our Melanesian countries is expected to hit the 90 per cent vaccination target this week while PNG remains below 5 per cent. Move it, PNG.
Family doctor
Definition of a psychiatrist – a qualified person who gives you an expensive and critical analysis about yourself, (which your spouse gives for free – and daily too!)
Food for thought
A job is a job, whether you are doctor or a road maintenance worker. You have no right to mock someone just because you are earning more than the other person. We are all trying to put food on our table.
Top quote
“PNG’s fiscal regime of continual excise increases, far more than inflation, has had the unintended consequence of driving demand to low-cost high-alcohol products such as ready-to-drink and illicit products.” – PNG Manufacturers Council chief executive officer Chey Scovell.
