Standing scribes
Scribes covering the PNG pageant night on Saturday had to practice their standing skills after organisers did not allocate them seats in the spacious ballroom. A few of the male journos were given a seat two hours into the show, thanks to a Good Samaritan.
Hard task
Mr PM was the special guest on the pageant night. He apologised for his late arrival and stayed on until the event ended after the stroke of midnight. He told organisors that he was given the hardest task of the night – which was to hand over the winning prize to the new queen.
Audio glitch
Hundreds tuned in to their TVs and logged in on Facebook to watch the pageant live streamed. But many were dumfounded when there was no audio – or the lack of it. Some had to resort to lip reading while others dozed off as it was nearing midnight.
Olam hat-trick
PNG’s new favourite son Justin Olam bagged his first hat-trick in the Storm’s win against Manly on Saturday. The second try was scored off a freakish pass from wing partner Josh Ado-Carr. Olam told reporters later that he got lucky with the third try.
Hitman Taufua
Did anyone see the massive hit put on by Manly’s hard hitter Jorge Taufua against Cam Munster? The Storm star was on the receiving end of one of the most textbook tackles you will see. Definitely one for the big hits highlights for the year.
Top quote
“My statement is very clear and has always been consistent over the last couple of months since taking office. I don’t want the country to be the same as what it is today,” Prime Minister James Marape.
