National unity
They all moved towards Tari-Pori MP James Marape’s side in Parliament when the nomination for prime minister was called. Good! Someone had suggested some time ago that a government of national unity be considered for PNG. Food for thought.
No opposition
So no one is really keen to be the Opposition Leader, or be seen sitting in the Opposition benches? That’s outrageous.
Political foes
There were a lot of known political foes hugging each other and patting each other on the back in Parliament yesterday. One cannot say whether it was the calm before the storm or just false pretences or both. Time will tell.
For women
We now have two female MPs shouldering the four million women of our beloved country. They are economist Rufina Peter and former PNG Customs commissioner Kessy Sawang. It just happens that they are close friends, and neighbors, in the Port Moresby suburb of Ensisi. They both did well in the 2017 general election and had since been working on getting it right in 2022. And they are both successful.
Promoting women
How appropriate for PNG that the theme of the World’s Indigenous People Day observed yesterday was: ‘The role of indigenous women in the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge.”
Food for thought
Some posted this yesterday: “I grew up watching my mother handling any and every obstacle life put in her way. She went through hell which I am sure kept her crying all night. But she got up every morning and continue doing an amazing job raising us. I could never be weak. I learned from the best!” Wow!
Top quote
“It’s not easy supporting a female candidate in a male-dominated field. I thank male voters for their support, trust and confidence in me to be their leader. I will be your voice.” – New Rai Coast MP Kessy Sawang.
