Funny look
PNG Customs reports that there is an increase in the import of fake goods especially hair and beauty products. It may explain why some people, especially of the female species, are walking around with funny-looking hair styles and out-of-sorts looks.
Unlucky Friday
Tomorrow is Friday 13th – which superstitious people consider “unlucky”. The number 13 and Friday have a long history of bringing bad luck. Some think that the reason for the number 13’s bad luck comes from the Bible. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, is thought to have been the 13th guest to sit down during the Last Supper. Eerie.
On the fence
Every MP seems to have made up their minds to move either to the left or the right. Only West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou is for now sitting on the fence, so to speak.
Active Namah
Call him what you want but Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah has had quite an active and busy stint in Parliament since he was first elected in 2007. He twice served as a Cabinet minister, once as a deputy prime minister, and three times now as the Opposition Leader. Not too many can boast of such a record. Not bad for a former army officer.
Dwindling numbers
It happened in the last Parliament and is happening again now. The number in Opposition dwindles as everyone wants to be part of Government. It weakens parliamentary democracy. We need a robust vibrant opposition to keep the Government on its toes.
