Column 1

Tongue slip
Prime Minister James Marape twice referred to his predecessor Peter O’Neill as “prime minister” in Parliament last Friday. Opposition Leader Belden Namah had to raise a point or order to point out what probably was a slip of the tongue. Or is there something afoot?
False alarm
In response to an item “False Alarm” in this column yesterday, a reader living at Hohola in Port Moresby said there were indeed water cuts on Saturday as per the warning by Eda Ranu. Water supply to his home was cut at 4am and did not come back until Sunday morning.
Safe area
If you live around Eight-Mile, you should consider yourself lucky because you are unlikely to be affected by any water cuts. A source says the Eda Ranu bossman lives somewhere around there.
Fees gone up
Yes the fees have gone up this month for television channels. Keep watching.
Tough draw
PNG gets to play USA first on Friday as the NRL Nines kicks off at the Bankwest Stadium in Sydney. Then they will be up against New Zealand and Australia on Saturday. Tough.
Hell to pay
Two friends discussing the humid conditions in the capital city lately almost ended up in a fight after one quipped: “Get used to it. It will be hotter in hell when you get there!”
New cream
Talking of the heat, there is a new thirst quencher available in the shops called the Sepik Vanilla ice cream. 100 per cent local they say.
Typhoon to blame
The Scots are blaming the typhoon which hit Japan last weekend for their defeat to the hosts on Sunday resulting in their early trip home. They cannot think of any other reason.
Dead man talking
Those who attended the funeral of Irish Defence Force veteran Shay Bradley at St. Kevin’s Church, Kilmanagh, Leinster on Saturday, couldn’t believe it when they heard him shouting “let me out” from the coffin after it was lowered into the grave. Bradley had recorded the message before his death so that he could give mourners a last laugh in his final goodbye.
Food for thought
Learn to be okay with people not knowing your side of the story. You do not have to prove anything to anyone.
