STATISTICS say that most road accidents in PNG today are caused not so much by drunk drivers but by drivers who do not know their road rules. Drivers may have the skills but knowing the rules is a different thing. Most seem to be getting licenses through wantok system and compromise the safety of the travelling public when they start trying to be smart on the road.

PAY attention to the scene in front of you when you hear the siren from a fire truck responding to an emergency. You will notice that it will be blocked off and unable to get through traffic with ease. Vehicles simply just will not move aside to let emergency services through. Even when the green lights came on, instead of giving way, everyone will be racing with the fire truck to get past the green light. One wonders whether all these drivers got their licenses through the proper process.

A WEWAK resident has raised the concern that there is no police presence in town. Yes they see blue cars in town but there are no police doing foot beats in town. One would think that since armed robberies have practically become a weekly event, residents would see more of the men and women in blue doing foot patrols along the streets in town.

SO, who do we blame when we say that there has been little or no development all across PNG over the last 37 years of independence: the people, the government or both? Ask yourself whether there is something you might be able to do that will in one way or another contribute towards the growth of this nation, our country, or better still whether you are doing enough right now.

THE National Capital District should really work on its own bus services. Residents of NCD deserve access to quality buses manned by drivers and crews who conduct themselves professionally.

PMV owners do not bother to service their vehicles regularly. Drivers  and crews do not seem to have any idea of personal hygiene and take no pride in their appearance.  One sees most drivers and their crews smoking and chewing betel nut without any regard for the health of their passengers. They are even very rude to their paying passengers and do not complete their routes as stipulated. What  are the authorities doing to regulate operations of the buses?

YOU cannot appreciate the good in life without having the bad. How will we know how good things are if we don’t have crap to compare it to! Life’s everyday experiences give us new knowledge which changes what we believe and who we are as a person. And remember, you cannot control life, you can only live it.
