EVERYONE experiences certain lessons in life. Sometimes it takes repeated demonstrations of a given law of life to really get it into one’s skull and other times, one powerful experience drives the point home forever. You cannot change other people, and it’s rude to try. It is a hundred times more difficult to burn calories than to refrain from consuming them in the first place.

THE National Road Safety Council advertisement on EMTV for pedestrians to use crossings at traffic lights is misleading. Maybe the council can tell us which traffic lights in Port Moresby have clear lines on the road for pedestrians to use as crossings. And also how much awareness is being done to educate drivers to stop their vehicles behind the marked lines so pedestrians can cross safely?

VERNACULAR instruction at elementary schools and bilingual instruction at lower primary level since their introduction has been a contentious issue. Some have argued that such language teaching approaches have contributed to the drop in quality education and weak mastery of English. These arguments were an influence on the Education Department’s decision to re-introduce English as the language of instruction at elementary and lower primary and allow for English to be taught as a subject beginning at elementary level in 2013. What do you say?

IT is high time city authorities got working on improving the drainage system in the capital city of Papua New Guinea. The same areas are flooded every time there is a heavy downpour and nothing is being done to correct it. Typical attitude we have today – let’s wait until someone gets drowned in a flooded drain before anything is done.

INSTRUCTIONS that a police presence be visible, and be felt in public places as well as the removal of vehicle tints seem to be falling on deaf ears. Wonder what is happening to the ‘warning order’ which means immediate compliance if not immediate disciplinary action would be taken by National Capital District central divisional commander Jim Andrews earlier this year?

THEY say life is what we make of it. There is no doubt that life has its ups and downs. However, how we deal with them can sometimes make all the difference. Some of these lessons may be old hat for you. If so, look for ways to refine the idea to ensure you’re getting the most out of it.
