DEAR NCDC, can you please consistently keep the Rainbow market area as clean as it was on Thursday afternoon?

***

AND it is almost a month now and there are still areas in the NCD that have not had their household waste collected and disposed off. A perfect recipe for disease to spread like wildfire!

***

CONGRATULATIONS to Marianville Secondary School students over the opening of the school’s new facilities by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

***

WE also acknowledge school principal Sr Angela Taylor for her leadership in ensuring the state of the art learning facilities was established for her female students. Well done.

***

A MISSING person report filed at a police station in Port Moresby saw the policeman record the adult female perpetrator’s height as 15cm.

***

TAKE a ruler and measure out 15cm. This obviously calls for recruitment requirements to be upgraded to at least Grade 12.

***

THIS is what an expatriate working in PNG has noted about Papua New Guinean driving habits. “Interesting to note the spitting of red betel nut juice on the bitumen tops the list followed by the throwing of litter including plastics, empty can drinks and food packs from moving vehicles.”

***

RESPECT and appreciation for public facilities as well as a simple code of conduct is lacking in PNG.

**

A HIGHWAY code simply does not seem to exist and we are sure most drivers are guilty of driving through a red light at one time or another.

***

TRAFFIC lights were first installed in 1868 in London, and most cities around the world have followed suit.

***

TRAFFIC lights alternate the right of way for road users by displaying lights of a standard colour using a universal colour code (red, yellow/amber, and green), and a precise sequence to enable comprehension by those who are colour blind).

***

IN the typical sequence of coloured lights: Illumination of the green light allows traffic to proceed in the direction denoted; Illumination of the orange/yellow light denoting, if safe to do so, prepare to stop short of the intersection, and illumination of the red signal prohibits any traffic from proceeding.

***

AUSSIE PM Julia Gillard’s visit to Papua New Guinea must be rated as an unqualified success. Now we hope that all the deals and agreements that have been made will come to fruition.
