A WATER company in Port Moresby should be ashamed for not practising safety standard last Friday when workmen were cutting through the cement in front of the Star Gazer entertainment centre. Workers who were using the cutter did not have safety boots, overalls, safety glasses and helmets. The job may look small, but safety is important.

MEANWHILE, it was total opposite to the work done at the Holiday Inn traffic light, the person operating the cutting machine had safety boots and glasses on. Prevention is always better than reacting to an accident due to negligence.

SOMETIME back, Eda Ranu did maintenance that required digging up one side of the road at the Waigani-Pitpit Street traffic lights. They covered the road and it has not been sealed with tar since then. With the latest rain in the city, that particular area is now a traffic hazard as cars going down Pitpit Street. Who is responsible for sealing the road – Eda Ranu or NCDC?

WE hear not only did police officers who raided the 9-Mile market destroy and disrupt market there on the weekend; they collected whatever they could including cooked lamb flaps that were tucked into the pockets of their six-pocket pants. When they got to their vehicles, they dug into their pockets for a feast.

A COMMUNITY leader of a Port Moresby suburb has called on police commissioner to investigate officers who are stealing from unsuspecting members of public when assuming official duties. He said the vendors and public were losing substantial amounts of money, goods and personal belongings to rogue policemen.

IT is over a week now since the police department launched its modernisation plan. Banners put to announce the event are still hanging battered by the rain, sun and wind in Port Moresby.

FRIENDSHIPS are the glue that holds the two countries together. How true. The World Vision chief executive officer says people-to-people relationships, who actually take the time to understand each other’s culture, story, dreams and aspirations, and dream of the possibilities that can be. He is also calling on more young Australians to visit Papua New Guinea to improve relations between the two countries. The PNG government should also encourage young Papua New Guineans to visit Australia.

FOOTBALL crazy fans sometimes go to the extreme when it comes to watching their team in action. A Parramatta Eels supporter raced from Rainbow to Waigani just to buy fuel for the generator in a record time of less than five minutes, thanks to the unscheduled power cut on Sunday night. The generator did come in handy for the television set and fan. And to top it off, his team went down.
