IT is a frustrating experience waiting for an X-ray to be performed at Port Moresby General Hospital. While some follow the queue, some use their wantoks to get in before others.

***

AND now with only one X-ray machine working, we suggest that the Government should forget about free health services and put the money into buying new state-of-the-art equipment.

***

PNG has medical specialists but they cannot perform their tasks without the correct equipment. Once we have the equipment, then a free health service can be introduced.

KUDOS to Yangoru MP Richard Maru who has been the talk of households wanting their respective MPs to be “an action one”. Those in the home districts are wishing for someone who walks the talk. Enough of talk, talk in the cities and towns, Maru says. Go and put your money where your mouth is, he told the people of Yangoru.

WE counted four traffic accidents damaging the concrete flower pots on the weekend between Gerehu and 4-Mile. Three of the vehicles totally wrecked. The vehicles will be covered by their owners but what about the flower pots. Who takes care of the bill to repair the pots?

IT is time now for the National Road Safety Council and the Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited to start cracking the whip on drivers who break traffic rules and be tough on those wanting to get new licences. Regular offenders should have their licences suspended and new offenders should have tallies against their names for every infringement.

YOU all know why police officers continue to abuse their powers and use force unnecessarily? It is because most or many of us aggrieved citizens do not stand up for our rights and seek justice.

THE Royal PNG Constabulary has an avenue for  criminal complaints against its officers. It is called the Internal Investigations Unit. We are all encouraged to make use of this avenue. The more cops go to jail for criminal abuse of police powers, the more a general and more noticeable positive change will gradually come about in the way the police deal with offenders and the public.

POPE Francis, the first Jesuit to assume the papacy, has become widely-known for his embrace of simplicity and humility since he became pope.

***

HE’S spoken of his desire to see the Roman Catholic church be a “poor church, for the poor,” and his sermons have focused on the need to look after the needy and sick, as well as the natural world. This is a challenge to those who practice the Catholic faith and all other Christians. A huge task indeed.
