THUMBS up to Sharp Talk members who are now rallying in support of the eight women in the gynaecology ward at Port Moresby General Hospital who have been diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer. They  have been waiting for up to three months to go to Lae for radiotherapy.

***

FOLLOWING on from Dr Frank Apamumu’s post on Sunday, we note with interest the growing number of members posting their support for meetings so contributions can be collected.

***

IT takes months for the hospital to provide tickets so the patients have been asked to seek help from relatives to pay for the tickets. They have all got to the stage of the disease where only radiotherapy can help them live a bit longer.

***

TO all those who have put their hands up to assist, we are sure the gesture is something the women

will never forget. Any form of assistance will be treasured.

***

THAT is why we have been stressing on the kind of health services PNG’s people should be able to access through the free health services policy.

***

TAKE a stroll along the corridor of Port Moresby General Hospital where the X-ray department is and see for yourself the queue and listen to the frustrations of the patients.

***

THE staff are doing the best they can from the little they have and we cannot blame them for the lengthy wait for treatment.

***

WE were in the queue two weeks ago and were appalled to find out that only one X-ray machine was working. It is time for the responsible authorities

and government to start putting money where their mouths are.

***

CHILDREN are fast learners as we found out when Master 3 was playing with a cockroach that had been killed a few minutes ago. He was told to leave it alone as it could carry diseases.

***

HE responded in a dead-serious tone: “Well, why can’t you give it some medicine?”

THE gremlins are at work again. In a full-page advertisement yesterday congratulating Government Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc on his knighthood, we named the acting MD for National Housing Corporation as Paul Dege. It is not Paul. It is John Dege. Keep up the good work at NHC, Dege. We applaud you.
