THE atmosphere at Marianville Secondary School on the weekend was nostalgic as former students went back in time to the school to celebrate its Golden Jubilee. The reunion was something most had been planning for with former students living overseas flying in to be part of the celebrations.

MARIANVILLE was founded in 1963 and started out as secondary education for Girls at Badili, taking in young ladies from St Theresa’s, and St Michael’s. However, these girls never reached a higher grade than Form 2 because the facilities were not adequate. From 1963 until 1966 Sr. Katrina (Sr. Elaine Cochrane) and two lay missionaries, Carmel Cudmore and Agnes Gibson, continued to teach at St. Therese’s Badili. In 1964 it was shifted to Bomana and was situated on the plateau among the Koiari tribes, who are known to be peaceful, loving, humble, respectful and very cooperative. Marianville came to reality through the vision of Sr. Catherine O’Sullivan (Mother Flavia) in 1966.

OKAY, this is a must read!!! The handshake has been the preferred gesture of greeting, parting, congratulating, thanking, and sealing a deal in many cultures for some time now, but, in the interest of health, it may be time to loosen our grip on the handshake and take up “pounding it” or high-fiving instead.
***
GETS interesting … shaking hands transfers 10 times more bacteria than fist bumping, while high-fiving falls somewhere between the two on the bacterial transfer spectrum. Still, none of these options is completely sterile, prompting one infection control expert to make the tongue-in-cheek suggestion that we reinstate bowing and curtsying, thereby eliminating hand contact entirely.

IS it legal or not to have neon lights under ones vehicle back bumper and front bumper? The transport department should come out and clarify if this is legal or not?
***
FROM our reading, only red light may be shown from the rear of a vehicle. There are a very few exceptions to this, including amber from indicators. Red light must never be shown at the front of a vehicle. Blue should be avoided, since it is strongly associated with emergency vehicles. Over to you folks at the Transport department!

WHILE on vehicles, we should share a few tips on safe driving and we hope readers take heed and practice it. Vehicles do not cause crashes. They may, however, contribute, so a safe vehicle should be: Serviced regularly to manufacturers specifications; Checked regularly by way of pre-drive checks (weekly); Checked for clean windscreen and headlights; and driven during the day with the highlights on low beam (be safe, be seen).

QUOTE of the day: I don’t believe in pessimism. If something doesn’t come up the way you want, forge ahead. If you think it’s going to rain, it will. – Clint Eastwood
