Come home to see changes

The National – Friday, July 8, 2011

I REFER to the letter by Maris Tagu’s criticising the service delivery in NIP (The National, July 5).
It is true Namatanai town is filthy and needs a facelift, likewise the condition of teachers’ houses and students’ facilities.
The Namatanai Hospital received a K2-million facelift, and the NIPG is looking into rehabilitating the run-down infrastructure and facilities.
Since Sir Julius Chan became the governor four years ago, NIP intake of secondary school students has reached 3,000 at five secondary schools.
Then, there were only 600 students and one secondary school.
A new high school started on New Hanover with two more in the pipeline for Tanga and Nasko.
Sea travel between the islands and mainland has improved since the introduction of the franchise shipping service offering low fares and freight charges.
The writer failed to mention the NIPG’s court action to regain hundreds of millions of kina in outstanding Lihir MoA arrears for projects and move to review the Simberi MoA.
It appears the writer is unaware of road works from Punam to Samo and Manga to Silur, bridges over Moronai, Punam and Pita rivers, and various road upgrades at Kaut, Fangalawa crossing, Central west coast, and Lelet have been accomplished in three years.
I call on the writer to come home to see the changes taking place.
