Commander calls for equal rotation

POLICE manpower seen to be sharing duties and responsibilities will result in a more professional approach towards the public, East New Britain police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie says.
He has requested the NGI divisional commander to have the roster for two mobile squad units at Tomaringa Barracks done in a way that one unit would remain in the province while deploying the other unit.
He said the police manpower in ENB stood at 240 and a huge portion of this comprised of mobile squad members of the special services division at Tomaringa Barracks.
“We have a big number of manpower in ENB and most are members of SSD, but they are used in operations outside of the province,” he said.
“I am requesting that when rostering the mobile squad unit in ENB, that one must remain in the province when the other one is out on duty.
“They (mobile squad members) have got a duty to look after their own province where their families reside, where they are housed and are part of our manpower,” he said.
“We have Tomaringa barracks, we have mobile squads but other people are doing the job.”
He said consequences of the same officers doing the job all the time resulted in stress and frustration. Wagambie said officers in the response unit worked very long hours attending to many complaints and incidents.
