Comments insulting to PNGNRL management

COMMENTS by Lae Snax Tigers Owner, Ian Chow, in The National on Friday (Nov 22) about the appointment of Matthew Church as PNG Hunter’s coach, is very disrespectful and insult to PNGNRL Management and the independent three-man recruitment team from PNG and Australia who were involved in the selection.
Chow’s comment in favour of Stanley Tepend is too shallow.
The requirement to be Hunter’s coach is not about having Digicel Cup experience, is not about wining premiership in Digicel Cup, is not about assisting Michael Marum in Test matches, is not about being Kumuls assistant coach, is not about winning Melanesian Cup, is not about beating British Lions recently.
Queensland Intrust Cup League (QITCL) is sanction by Australia National Rugby League and is a second-tier league to NRL.
To be a coach of any team affiliated to QITCL, the potential candidate should meet NRL requirements.
One of the important criteria is having Australian Level 3 coaching certificate and Chow should know that Tepend does not have that.
The other Digicel Cup coaches also do not have Level 3 coaching certificate.
Michael Marum is the only person who has Level 3 coaching certificate.
Furthermore, with due respect Tepend has not being involved with Hunters game nor being Michael Marum’s assistant coach for Hunters. Chow should not accuse PNGNRL management for overlooking Stanley Tepend.
Simply, Tepend does not meet QITCL requirement.
Matthew Church meet the QITCL requirements and also he brings with him a lot of Intrust Cup experiences and furthermore, he has contacts with NRL which will be a bonus to scout our Hunters players upon his recommendations.
The challenge now to Chow is to sponsor Tepend to allow him to get Level 3 coaching certificate to vie for future post.
