THE Teaching Service Commission has praised Central for organising leave fares for its teachers last year without any trouble.

Commissioner policy Samson Wangihomie said Central had no hiccups last year because it had a very good data base which safeguarded the teachers.

He said: “Central has done well, Chimbu has done well, the New Guinea Islands region has done well. It is only the Momase region which had problems with their teachers. In the Southern Region it’s the National Capital District and Northern.”

He said it was about good management and effective monitoring of teachers’ leave entitlements.

Commission chairman BaranSori said Central was the only province which managed teachers’ leave fares effectively.

“If other provinces do that then we could minimise the shortage of money for leave fares,” he said.

He said the commission would like to encourage all divisions to have a data base to monitor teachers.

He said the commission realised that there were teachers who lodged false claims when applying for leave fares.

“There are teachers who put in false claims and additional names of people, whether they are within their age limits or biological children like bubus or aunty or uncles,” he said.
