THE people of Manus will benefit greatly from the Australian Government Development Assistance to Manus, the Australian High Commission says.

The high commission in Port Moresby said the governments in Australia and Papua New Guinea had agreed to provide additional support to Manus.

Under the package, the Government provided K18.5 million to the Manus provincial government for projects in Manus. Australia would at least match this contribution, it said.

The statement said the Government and the Manus provincial government determined which projects would receive funding under the additional assistance package.

The Government and the Manus provincial government had decided that funding from the additional development assistance package would be used for projects, including Lorengau Hospital.

The first batch of medical equipment was delivered to Lorengau Hospital chief executive Dr Otto Numan last month by Charles Kendall and Partners.

Preparations are under way to renovate the water system for the dental clinic.

Peddle Thorp Pty Ltd is developing a master plan for Lorengau Hospital.

The final master plan is expected to be completed by early November.
