Commission starts polling roll update

National

THE Bougainville Referendum Commission has started updating the roll in preparation for the referendum.
Ward recorders will be visiting villages and homes to update the details of eligible voters in wards and community governments.
The ward recorders will be using the roll developed following the completion of the first phase enrolment exercise last month.
The commission is urging everyone eligible to enrol to consult their ward recorders to confirm or update their details.
One must be on the roll to vote in the referendum, according to the commission.
For Bougainvilleans living in other provinces, the commission will be working with the Electoral Commission to facilitate the exercise.
The voting eligibility criteria are:

  • Resident in Bougainville for at least six months prior to enrolment;
  • born on or before Oct 12, 2001; and,
  • Be a citizen of PNG and entitled to vote in the national election.
