Chief Ombudsman Richard Pagen says the Ombudsman Commission has fulfilled the requirement of law by submitting the report on the Union Bank of Switzerland (USB) loan deal to Parliament.
Pagen who appeared at the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the UBS loan deal yesterday told The National that he was directed to table the covering letter of the Ombudsman Commission’s report to Parliament.
“The Royal Commission of Inquiry wanted to confirm that the Ombudsman Commission actually tabled the report in Parliament as required by law,” he said.
“What we presented on Monday was the actual report into the UBS loan itself. They required evidence to show whether or not what we have tabled in Parliament was what they required, which was the covering letter.” He said the covering letter had been received by Speaker Job Pomat and then Clerk to Parliament Vela Konivaro.
Pagen said it concluded part of the Ombudsman Commission’s evidence.
“When we return on July 6, it is to iron out the counsels assisting the Commission in the event that they give further directions,” he said.
