Commission to PMV operators: Use alternative bus stops

BUS owners and drivers have been instructed to stop using the Unagi Oval in Port Moresby as a temporary bus station.
City manager Bernard Kipit said there was a lot traffic congestion, illegal vending and petty crimes at Unagi.
“The public and PMV operators are warned that any further use of the Unagi Oval as a bus stop will be dealt with accordingly by the relevant authorities and must not be encouraged by any individual or company,” Kipit said.
Kipit said the National Capital District Commission had allocated five alternative areas as bus stops in Gordon:

  • The vacant land next to the Eda Ranu office along the Poreporena Freeway for buses serving routes to Wildlife, ATS, Eight-Mile, Nine-Mile and Bomana;
  • road opposite the Diamond Club is for buses to 4-Mile, East Boroko, Manu Autoport and Down town;
  • land near Digicel headquarters and RH Trading along Kennedy Road for buses serving routes to Hohola, 4-Mile and Manu;
  • land near the Gordon Police Station for buses to Sogeri, Vanapa, Brown River, Laloki bridge, and Goldie; and,
  • Area along Woodcock road to serve PMV routes to Erima, and Gerehu.

  • City manager, looks like you are bit out of your sense. how would you expect people with their belongings walk from one end to another. just imagine the distances that they will walk from one bus stop to another. usim het ya.

    Gordon bus stop is a centralised bus stop where all the routes should come and drop off and pick up. come on manager.

  • Well done, in order to stop petty crimes all is good for our women and school children were the most targeted. If you are lazy enough than you may oppose what the city manager has set other wise well done.
