THE Commission of Inquiry into the Union Bank of Switzerland loan deal has launched its website with the aim of making the inquiry information accessible to the public.
COI secretary Mathew Yuangu said the website was a necessary tool for opening up the inquiry for public information.
He said the website was endorsed by the chairman Sir Salamo Injia who had input into its development and the content.
Yuangu said the website contained the latest information on the public hearings at the COI ,including the terms of reference, practice notes, daily sitting schedules, progressive sitting schedules and summary of daily sittings.
“It will save the secretariat a lot of printing and compilation of documents on the COI to give to the people who request information as well,” he said.
“The website is useful for our purpose as well as for the public who can have access to the proceedings that transpire during the COI hearing.
“During the course of the inquiry there will be more inputs especially on the updates of proceedings.”
Yuangu said the website contained a homepage and details such as the daily diaries, schedules of appearances when as per directions, summons and requests of each of those persons who were of interest to the commission.
He said during the inquiry, the counsels and solicitors would go through the documents submitted by the key witnesses and identify some of the witnesses.
“We haven’t started the inquiry the UBS loan subject of this inquiry so there will be more witnesses coming out,” Yuangu said.
“This website will help in the process to disseminating information from the commission and also receiving documents and feedback providing requests for specific assistance.”
“There will also be practice notes and procedures of the conduct of the inquiry, other media releases and press statements from the commission.”
Yuangu said there would also be a link to the website to link up with the national daily newspapers so that any news published from those media outlets particularly the print media would be featured on the website.
“This will be useful for those who are from outside of the country who want to follow on the COI proceedings. It is a useful medium of communications that we are able to launch,” Yuangu said.
