Commission welcomes lawyer after studies

A YOUNG female lawyer with the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC) has successfully completed a master’s programme at a leading Australian university this year, boosting the commission’s legal manpower capacity and expertise.
Lucy Mathew, 31, was formally welcomed back to office by CLRC management and staff on Friday after undertaking an intensive two-year masters in law and development programme at the Melbourne University as part of the Australian government scholarship awards programme supported by the PNG Government.
CLRC secretary Dr Mange Matui congratulated Mathew, saying he was looking forward to working with her and believed she had a lot to offer to CLRC and the country as far as the core business of reforming laws was concerned.
“It is not what you acquire but it’s what you do with that knowledge and for me that is very important,” he said.
Matui said the endorsement for Mathew to undertake the studies was a testament to CLRC’s commitment to ensure every staff member was given equal opportunity for studies and training including ongoing short-term courses.
