PNG Customs Commissioner David Towe says the organisation has revamped most of its business processes and systems to streamline and modernise its business.
“They will necessitate a standardised and consistent approach to delivering our core functions thus ensuring confidence, certainty and predictability in the carriage of our businesses,” Towe said. “For 2022, the Government had increased our budget allocation and simultaneously required us to collect more – a K600 million increase in our collections.
“We are of course set to perform and deliver the budget projections for the Government in 2022, affirm our commitment and contribute towards the development of our nation.
“It is also pleasing that the Government had allocated us K20 million under the 2022 development budget to construct the container examination facility for Lae Port.
“We are confident the deployment of this non-intrusive intervention technology will greatly enhance border security and compliance resulting in an increase in revenue collection for the State.
“We will also work on the new corporate plan that will set a new direction, vision and objectives for the organisation with a rebranding of our culture and values that will centre on zero tolerance to corruption, excellence in leadership, teamwork, performance and rewarding, to make PNG Customs a robust and leading organisation at all fronts.
“We anticipate to have this strategic plan launched for implementation in June 2022, followed by a major organisational restructure to deliver the new corporate plan.”
