Committee to find misplaced cheques

THE Madang provincial education advisor Moses Sariki says a committee is investigating the 13 missing cheques sent to primary schools in the Middle Ramu electorate.
The second quarter subsidy cheques had gone missing, according to the board chairperson for Chringrubu Primary School.
He said the cheques had not gone missing but were misplaced among acquittal reports at the provincial education office.
“Eleven cheques have been found while Kaironk in the Simbai LLG and Chringrubu in Araka LLG primary schools were yet to be located and given to them,” he said.
Sariki said he was not pleased with the reports being made to the provincial government as this was misleading.
“I am not very happy with the sarcastic comments made to the administrator about the cheques,” he said.
Sariki said specific directives had been given to the provincial administration officer to ensure that cheques were distributed to respective schools in all six districts.
“I had been on business travel and at no time given my approval to use the cheques by any person,” Sariki added.
He added that a follow-up letter had been written to the banks in the province to check if any school cheques had been cashed.
“However, I don’t believe that any have been stolen or cashed,” he said, adding that those responsible would be dealt with severely.
