Committee to screen candidates

 THE Autonomous Region of Bougainville senior appointments committee will meet next Tuesday to screen candidates for constitutional office holders.

The Bougainville peace agreement and the Bougainville Constitution sanctioned the creation of the committee to avoid any politically-motivated interference in the appointment of constitutional office holders and senior officers.

The committee is chaired by President Dr John Momis. Members are the House of Representatives Speaker, Andrew Miriki, Catholic Diocese Bishop Unabali and a local lawyer.

Momis said the committee was the appointing authority for acting and permanent appointments and was the only body authorised to make the appointments.

Momis said the committee would make appointments after positions have been advertised.
