COMMUNICATION hurdles to access the rest of the world from PNG’s highest peak Mt Wilhelm in Simbu province are now a thing of the past.
Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Joe Mek Teine has installed a new state-of-the-art V-Sat telecommunication, last week on Mt Wilhelm High School in Gembogl sub-district.
The new facility will not only enable the high school to reach the outside world, but tourists and local tour operators bound for Mt Wilhelm can use it to connect onto websites and get in touch with family members and relatives, Mr Mek Teine said.
When contacted, Mr Mek Teine said he plans to connect his electorate with  the rest of the world.
He chose Mt Wilhelm High School ahead of the rest because it was situated at the foot of Mt Wilhelm which is one of the main tourist hubs in the country and is located in his electorate.
He expressed his appreciation to Telikom PNG staff who went to the area to set up the facility last Friday.
Mt Wilhelm High School teachers who resumed duties on Monday were over the moon when they found that they could call the rest of the world from Mt Wilhelm.
Senior teacher Vincent Don said they could now connect to the internet to access important information to teach the students.
He thanked Mr Mek Teine for having the vision to do such a thing that other politicians and leaders had never thought of doing.
“We really appreciate him for helping us.
“Anyone wishing to call Mt Wilhelm High School can access us on our V-Sat number 2767518 and 2767519,” Mr Don said.
