Communities to work with police to round up troublemakers

PEOPLE living in two suburbs of Lae will support police in rounding up those who have been causing trouble there lately.
During a peace mediation ceremony at the Tent City police station, residents of Tent City and Bumayong agreed to hand over the trouble-makers to police. The meeting with police was prompted by seven men who went on a rampage and destroyed properties last weekend. Three homes were razed.
Stage Four law and order committee chairman Tissh Yaneng said innocent people had become victims of reckless individuals who caused trouble and disturbed the peace.
“We have been trying to address abuse of alcohol and drugs which are the main cause of disturbances in the community,” Yaneng said.
Tent City police station commander Graham Boram said police had been educating the people on law and order problems at Tent City and Bumayong. He told the parents of the seven suspects to hand them over to police immediately or else they would be arrested for harbouring them.
