Community development boost

JAPAN International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Community Development Department secretary have signed a revised document for the integrated community development project (ICDP).
ICDP is a technical assistance project of the Japanese government officials which was a three-year project commencing in 2005 for the first phase.
At the fourth meeting held in Port Moresby last Thursday, JICA senior adviser Takeda Nobuhisa said the second phase had been initiated in order to promote and strengthen community development based on ICDP.
Nobuhisa said the project’s purpose was defined as human resource, organisational capacity and structures, which are required for sustainable community development.
Two pilot projects are currently underway in Wosera Gawi district of East Sepik and Moresby south.
Nobuhisa said the second ICDP had been working closely with district, provincial wards levels and South Wosera communities namely Patigo village to promote ICD policy through water project implementation of a water supply system in Patigo.
Department secretary Joseph Klapat said the signed document was a fair and unbiased one that would pave a way forward.
He lauded efforts by a JICA consultant proposal on prospects for further works which he presented a model for the projects.
He said the model could be used as “a tool for government to achieve the 40-year vision”.
