A NEW community health post for rural Kamano two local level government (LLG) in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, was jointly opened by local MP Johnson Tuke and the Eastern Highlands health authority (PHA) last week.
The Musave Community Health Post is located in the ward four area of the LLG near the border with Henganofi and will serve more than 5,000 people.
The facility was jointly funded by the Asian Development Bank, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), through the Health Department’s rural primary health services delivery project (RPHSDP).
PHA chief executive officer Dr Joseph Apa said they had plans to establish 74 such facilities in the province’s LLGs with four facilities – Musave, Yasubi, Jaffa and Amira – already completed through the partnership.
“Partnership with non-governmental organisations, development partners, churches, local governments, provincial health authorities and the Health Department is key to strengthening the delivery system and improve health services,” he said.
Dr Appa said Eastern Highlands was one out of eight selected provinces through the RPHSDP in which two districts – Kainantu and Okapa – were selected to have community health posts built in them.
