The New Ireland government is not only spending on infrastructure projects, but lifting the standard of living in urban areas and the province.
A modern community hall and toilet facilities for families in Kulangit village of Kavieng Urban  local level government were opened last month.
New Ireland governor Sir Julius Chan, members of the provincial executive council, staff, the provincial administrator and officials, joined with non-governmental organisation, Live And Learn, councillors, and the Kulangit community to witness the opening.
Sir Julius commended Ward 5 councillor, Alex Manggui, his people and Live And Learn for the completion of the community hall and toilets.
He extended funding for 10 more toilets for Kulangit.
He urged MPs to work together to lift the people’s living standard in urban villages as well as throughout the province.
The new facilities were built at a cost of K50,000, from the provincial government. Another K50,000 was given to women groups in Kulangit as seed capital to start building more toilets.
The community groups have also started savings with the New Ireland Savings and Loans Society, which will ensure the sustainability of toilets into the future.
