Community raises funds, build new classrooms

CHILDREN at Siar Elementary School in Madang have new classrooms to learn in.
The students and community opened a three-in-one building – two classrooms and one office.
More than K45,000 was raised by the people of Siar village to construct the building.
The Madang development authority (DDA) provided over K45,000 for the project.
Madang MP Bryan Kramer, who attended the opening, said the building was a result of the commitment of the students, parents, teachers, management and board and the community.
He said for development to take place there needed to be a plan, knowledge and funds.
“The school planned a three-in-one structure,” he said.
“They found a contractor with the knowledge to build it; they raised their own money and asked the Madang DDA to cover the balance of the funds.”
Kramer said the funds were given to the ward to encourage ownership of the initiative and to ensure services reached the people directly.
