Community show support
TEACHERS, students, parents and local community in Margarima, Hela, are rallying to rebuild classrooms that were destroyed in a fire a couple of years ago.
Hela education director Ronny Angu said the Hiri Primary School was partly destroyed by a fire during tribal fighting.
Angu said children suffered because there was no classrooms.
“There were also challenges with teachers postings due to housing as well,” he told The National.
“But now, with the support of the hardworking school administration, school board and the provincial education division, everyone is rallying together in a journey of rebuilding classrooms, teachers’ houses and toilets that were destroyed.
“For too long, our children have suffered.”
Angu said they were rebuilding the school with whatever they had and whatever they could afford.
He thanked the school principal, students, teachers and surrounding community members for contributing positively to rebuilding and maintaining their classrooms and teachers’ houses this term.
