THE Elcom volleyball competition has been given a K4000 boost and trophies from the National Capital District Commission Suburban Sports office to stage their grand-final tomorrow.

The competition, which drew 17 clubs with teams from the surrounding communities of Murray Barracks, Elcom, Hohola One, Two and Three, will see the winners for the men’s and women’s walk away K1000 richer.

The runners-up will pocket K500 each.

During a presentation yesterday, NCDC Suburban Sports chairman, Billy Aki, pictured, conveyed Governor Powes Parkop’s support for the competition.

“Under suburban sports, it is great to see communities getting themselves organised to run competitions of this nature.

“He is always supportive of communities that use sport as a bridge to strengthen relationships and combat social issues,” Aki said.

Aki made special mention of the competition executives headed by president Billy Seri, Avia John (vice-president), Elizabeth Koite (treasurer) and Olive Sabadi (secretary).

“Having three females backing the president is a show of confidence and we (suburban sports) see this as a positive sign for the longevity of the competition,” he added.

Seri said the men’s grand-final will be a heated challenge between Leftovers and Waimex from Casuarina Street.

In the women’s, Waitai of Casuarina Street, will take on Katres from Murray Barracks.

The third place getter will pocket K300, while outstanding players will get K50 each.
