A TOTAL of K17,000 was donated to the PNG Hearts for Australia Appeal committee by three companies and a family adding to a total of K617,372 given in Port Moresby.
Committee chairman Paul Nerau said the contributions for the bushfire appeal had been encouraging and showed Papua New Guineans were concerned about the Australian bushfires.
“It’s a contribution from the heart although we know that Australia is a big country and can look after itself and many other countries have also donated.”
Nerau said in the interest of transparency, contributions would be audited.
The Think Tank Group, Grand Columbia Ltd and Project Resource Support Services donated K5,000 each while Grand Columbia Limited director Robert Igara donated K1,000 and Paradise Private Hospital director Janet Sios also donated K1,000 on behalf of her family.
Think Tank Group also donated K5,000 to the committee to help carry out the fundraising drive.
The committee clarified that donations would be given to Foreign Affairs Ministry which will then give to the prime minister to be presented to the Australian government.
