The Eddie Engineering and Salu Mini Mart in Lae have helped youths with tools and fuel to clean Hilmar Wong Park at Vocopoint beachfront.
A set of soccer uniforms were also bought for youths to join the city competition.
Eddie Engineering owner Ponweera Edward said the work at Hilmar Wong Park will give the beachfront a new lease on life.
“The seashore is gradually changing,” he said.
“The environment is clean and is attracting visitors each day with the hope to restore the lost pride and confidence to public travelling to and from coastal villages,” he said.
Hilmar Wong Park attracts hundreds of families in Lae to sit
round, have a bbq and swim in the sea.
“It is challenging but the youths begin to respect public mobility and ensure the place is clean, people walk freely without fear and rubbish are put in the bins provided,” Edward said.
Eddie gave K500 and Salu K100 to help buy soccer uniforms for Vocopoint Seawalls FC to compete in Lahi Football Association competition.
Vocopoint (dog unit) police commander Chief Sergeant Brian Panda told the players that young people have to think and act positively.
