PUMA Energy PNG Ltd has faced a number of challenges delivering fuel on the Highlands Highway, says country general manager and director Hulala Tokome.
Tokome told The National that there had been a number of incidents where its cartage carriers were attacked along the highway during the Covid-19 State of Emergency.
“This is a huge challenge in trying to maintain supply within the country,” he said.
“Transiting fuel into Goroka and Mt Hagen has been a challenge and this has been done through our cartage contractors who continue to encounter a number of issues on the road leading up to our facilities in the highlands, of which the road conditions itself is a huge challenge on its own.
“This has continued to be a high risk for us as well as our cartage contractors, who we have worked together to put in place risk mitigation strategies to reduce the level of risk in serving these communities.
“However, this continues to be an area of concern for us in trying to serve these provinces and communities.”
Tokome said fuel stocks in PNG were not a concern.
