Company recognised for quality work

Business

THOMAS Pisimi, of managing director of a local civil construction company took a risk when he left his steady job at the Department of Transport to start his own company, R & Sons in 2002.
He recalled starting from one container, with a receptionist and a small number of workmen plus some equipment.
“I did almost everything myself: the accounting, the buying of parts,” Pisimi said.
“It was a one-man show.”
According to a statement from the Australian High Commission, Pisimi focused his business on providing good quality work with good accounting and management and was awarded two PNG-Australia partnership road improvement contracts for 186km of the coastal highway between Madang and Bogia.
This enabled Pisimi to grow his business, which now employs about 200 people, including seven engineers, three training engineers and a large administrative team.
Pisimi said there was an increase in women interested in jobs that were traditionally male dominated.
“We have two women engineers – one is a project engineer and one is a training engineer,” he said.
“We also recruit women to work in administration.
“I’ve always emphasised to my project managers to give chances to women in this industry.”
As the business grew, it created opportunities for graduates, who Pisimi hired as training engineers cutting their teeth on job sites for six to 12 months.
Pisimi credited his success to many years of hard work.
“My advice is to not give up.”
R & Sons continued working through the Covid-19 pandemic with 85 per cent of the project now complete.
From January to June, the PNG-Australia partnership awarded 50 road improvement contracts to 36 PNG-owned construction companies.

  • Well done, PNG companies like yours can progress and grow big when we are given a chance to do the job right and honestly. We have heard countless news of PNG owned businesses or companies who just register companies to swindle money out for their own use without doing the job.
Your honesty to getting the job done will see you getting more million kina contracts and providing employment and training for our people too. TOO GUD YU AH…

  • Congratulations R & Sons Construction Company. As a Ialibuan am very proud to read your story on your company’s progress thus far. Quality work output is the result of Honesty which many local construction companies are lacking it. Many road sealings done by the local road/civil construction companies are chip seals and don’t last long. Do proper costings and deliver world standard projects accordingly is lacking or ignorantly bulldozing by our own PNG civil/construction companies and their owners become overnight millionaires.

  • Well done rnsons every hard work and honesty as a succes and blessings from above, from small to big, full credit to Thomas ponah pisimi well done…

  • Congratulations R&sons hard work, commitment ,perservance pays of from you sweat keep it up .

  • As a national, who also works in this industry with a foreign construction company, i am Very impressive for the hight quality work a local construction company R&SONS construction has done as described.

It all reflect the type of Management you have.

I i have gained my knowledge with foreign construction company but now i wish i work with a local company like R &Sons who has very good organization structure.

  • Congratulations R&Sons…Not giving up leads to many success and you have archived that to be successful and being recognised by PNG and Australia as a well managed quality and qualified company. You have set the standard with a good reputation and you have opened the door for far more opportunities. Thankyou and am feeling blessed to say that you could be the first to have roads and civil engineers of that many, 7 enginers in a local single company both trainee male and female is a milestone archieved and once again a big round of a clause. Mega Congratulations to Mr Thomas Pona Pisimi , Managing Director R&Sons Construction Company.
