THE successful completion of the 2021 Lae Corporate Eight-Ball season has prompted sponsor Mt Golpu to renew its commitment to sponsor the pool competition next year.
Hengambu Landowner Association chairman John Nema made the announcement during the presentation night after the grand final between Kuima Security and Golpu One.
He thanked all the stakeholders of the competition, saying that next season would be different.
“The standard will change, the commitment for sponsorship will change,” Nema said.
“It’s going to be big, so all teams have to be ready.
“We will continue to support the competition because I believe it gives corporate companies time off from their busy schedules to socialise and relax.
“We’ll continue to sponsor this competition and I encourage corporate companies to come and participate because we will be offering bigger prizes than this year.”
Lae Aviat Club club president Karo Gamoga thanked all the nine teams that participated in the competition.
They are Golpu One, Golpu Two, Kuima Security, Lae Auto Clinic, Guard Dog Security, Gamoga and Co Lawyers, Lamadeb Security, Andersons Foodland and Dekenai Construction.
“In the last three months, teams have really polished up on their skills and have done well,” Gamoga said.
“Teams like Golpu One, Golpu Two, Kuima and Gamoga Lawyers who finished in the top-four are made up of seasoned players.
“But the impressive teams are Dekenai, Andersons and Lamdeb who all started this year.
“They have one or two seasoned players, but most of them are new.
“I’ve seen some of them perform really well, so we’ve awarded two most improved players — one from Andersons and the other from Dekenai.”
He said it was the sixth year with the first premiership won by Bank South Pacific then followed by Ela Motors, Gamoga and Co Lawyers, GS Marine, Kuima Security and 2021 winners Golpu One.
“The minimum sponsors we’ve had each year is about K10,000,” Gamoga said.
“Previously, we had Guard Dog and Trukai sponsoring the competition. This year is Mt Golpu.
“It has been a successful ending to the season and everyone is happy.”
