Company registrar happy with feedback

THERE has been a positive feedback so far on proposed changes to the Association Act which governs registration and operation of not for profit organisations, says Acting Registrar of Companies Harriet Kokiua.
Speaking in Kokopo on Friday where a consultation workshop was held, she said many small associations that attended consultations in Port Moresby, Lae, Goroka and Kokopo had given good feedback.
Kokiua said many were for the proposed changes.
She said the turnout in Kokopo exceeded the 31 stakeholders that initially registered.
Kokiua reminded stakeholders that it would be the outcome of the workshop that would determine how they wanted the law.
She said they were privileged to take part in the review of this “very old Act that has not been updated since its passage in 1966”.
Kokiua said all feedback would be compiled and returned to stakeholders.
She said the review team has circulated notices on the public consultations far and wide to stakeholders on the IPA website.
Fidelma Kinakap, who is treasurer and founder of Rabaul-Gazelle SME Women in Business Association, said accurate data should be put in place throughout the country.
East New Britain commerce advisor Henry Tavul said the review was timely because there were too many “paper organisations” which defeated the purpose of associations serving their members.
