RAMU NiCo management has relocated the limestone quarry at its Basamuk refinery to a new location to pave the way for further extraction of limestone.
The company said in a statement that the relocation of the two buildings recently was to pave way for further extraction of limestone on Dugur mountain, situated several kilometres inland of Basamuk where Ramu NiCo (MCC) extracted limestone to carry out production at its processing plant on the coast of Basamuk Bay.
According to the company’s health, safety and environment (HSE) team, the location was safely and properly done in accordance with laws and regulations and involved the removal of the old office structure and relocating it to a new site about a kilometre downhill.
Corporate environment superintendent Moses Ya’a said the office relocation was done well with little to no impact to the original site.
He said the new office would be used by their limestone quarry section operators particularly truck drivers, drillers and blasters, who worked in that section, to rest and work from.
Ya’a said the location of the office would also allowed further extraction of limestone from Dugur mountain.
