THE Mt Hagen General Hospital has been given K87,579 by a company to buy medical equipment.
Daewon Trading, a wholesale grocery company operating in Mt Hagen, gave the money to the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority to buy medical equipment and for patient care.
Managing director Danny Kang handed over a cheque to hospital chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa last Thursday, saying Daewon Trading had been assisting the authority in the past.
But he said this was the biggest donation so far which would be used to procurebio-chemistry analysers for the hospital.
One analyser will be used for the investigation and management of diabetic patients. A coagulation analyser will test functions of blood and a blood gas analyser will be used in the Intensive Care Unit.
Kintwa said the analysers would help the hospital to manage critically ill patients and give them appropriate attention and treatment.
Kintwa said Mt Hagen was a referral hospital for the Highlands region and the analysers would benefit patients from other provinces.
He hoped other individuals and organisations would help as well.
Kang said Daewon had been operating in Mt Hagen for years and felt obliged to assist.
an organisation such as the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority from which more people would benefit.
Dr Kintwa said the authority could not buy some things it wanted  because of the lack of funding.
