Complain on power service
The National, Tuesday March 1st, 2016
The Yangoru-Saussia people in the East Sepik have expressed frustration at PNG Power Ltd’s poor service delivery despite investing about K25 million in the rural electrification programme, Yangoru-Saussia chief executive officer Fantson Yeninen said.
“We have funded the necessary infrastructures like power poles, pole transformers, transmission lines for over 120km for the past seven years under the leadership of previous Yangoru-Saussia MP (Peter Wararu) and the current MP (Richard Maru),” he said.
“While we have invested and expanded PNG power customer base, the service we get is very disappointing.
“Many villagers who were excited to have access to electricity are frustrated.
“We have met all the necessary PNG Power requirements to have electricity connected to the houses.
“Contractors have completed all the electrical work and applied for intention to connect.
“For months we haven’t been able to get power connected.
“Then we found that is no inspector on the ground.
“We are told that inspector came only for three weeks and just did three houses and flew back to Port Moresby.
“I’m wondering is PNG Power really interested in making money or not? If they are not, then how do they survive? These were my observations of the poor service delivery of PNG Power to the Yangoru-Saussia people.”
